To be honest, some people just weren't aware that the books even existed until the movies. In my case, the movies came out when I was little, and so naturally I wouldn't have known about the books. And at that time I didn't realise that most movies are based on books, so I never though to look into it. But now that I do know I'm going back to read them. And reading isn't everybody's thing, some people just don't like it. Some people prefer movies because it's easier to follow for them. We can hardly criticise, it's their prerogative. True, some people do unfairly judge books before they've had a chance to read them, but nonetheless fans are fans, no matter how you experience your fandom.

Spoilers are not spoilers if the book is old

No matter how much the book brings pain...which is why I've reread it about forty times in the span of 6 months xD But after the first time, I cried at the end. ._. Kinda...a lot.

I've read the book fifteen times, and it keeps getting better every single time I read it. Ignore the illiterate whiners, they're just mad because they never learned to read grown-up books.
the-ostentatious Featured By Owner Jan 24, 2014
How would reading the book spoil the movies if anything its the other way around. And who the crap do you think you are interpretaing someone else's art being a true fan is whatever you want it to be other people saying they are true fans by reading the book is the same as you saying you are for just watching the movie get off your high horse and let people think what they want if anything you just make yourself look pathetic by thinking you can define what being a "fan" actually is

Frankly, all I see in this is a girl being a complete jerk to a boy who clearly loves something. Who the freak cares if he hasn't read an old book that maybe to hard for him to read. He loves the movie, he loves the story, and the characters. That is what a true fan is.
InvaderPumpkinQueen Featured By Owner Jan 22, 2014  Hobbyist
I adore the Hobbit, I seriously watch it every night now. And I am so excited to watch the second movie. I don't have to read the books to be a fan. I love books, and I will read them after I am done seeing all the movies. But, three movies are from one book. I don't want to spoil three movies by reading it, I don't want to know what happens.
OmegaMajora99 Featured By Owner Jan 19, 2014
It's funny because The Hobbit novel is ridiculously short compared to The Lord of the Rings.

I didn't start enjoying the movie until I started to pretend it was fanfiction.
Nimrodel626 Featured By Owner Mar 24, 2015
Same here! It's just a different medium of fanfiction. (I had to keep repeating this to myself all the way thought the Desolation of Tolkien, I mean Smaug. XD

This is kind of the opposite of me. Watching the movie and loving it made me want to read the book. I read the Lord of the Rings after seeing the first movie. After I found out how many books were actually in the middle earth group and how deep the mythology actually goes, I decided I wasn't going to read anymore because it was too much. Then the Hobbit came out and I read that book. Now I'm back in the same spot as before. Every time I get out he (peter Jackson) keeps pulling me back in. lol

Om my gosh this is sooo true! You have no idea how many kids I have met that say they are the biggest LOTR fans and I ask if they have read the book
and guess what..... they haven't. I'm like (-.-"), '' Idiots.'' and they are like (^_^), '' Whaaaat?''
Anyways!, wondwerful parody!

Was anybody else really frustrated when the boy said he never read the book?
Scutterland Featured By Owner Jun 9, 2013  Student Digital Artist
LOL people keep saying "The book is a SPOOF of the movie" but to me it's a little like the opposite or something...

It's like, the book was written for children...but the movie was (admit it, people) made for fans...

I don't know, I flipping LOVE both, so I don't care, that's just how I see it

I just finished the book of the Hobbit. I couldnt read the other LOTR books though because Tolkien's writing style is do old i couldnt hold my attention on the first one when i got up to the part where Frodo and Co were in the forest after being attacked by a tree.... I feel like a horrible LOTR Fan.....
edragongirl Featured By Owner Jun 12, 2013  Hobbyist
It's really hard to read the first time through,
the best way to do it in my opinion is to skim-read the first time, then read deeper the second and third times through.

Don't feel bad, I'm still having trouble with the Sillmarillion and the histories of middle earth. :P
CoralArts Featured By Owner Apr 14, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Yep, so true. And you will miss everything, if you don't read the books, they are best. And well drawn anyway :)
